News broadcasting
The term news broadcasting immediately connects us with the transmission of the news through electronic media. There are mainly three types of news broadcasting available in the present time they are television, radio and internet news. Since from quite some time internet is also catering the requirement for the news and it is available in all the forms like print, video and audio. A newscast usually consists of the coverage of various news events and other information, either produced locally in a radio or television station newsroom, by a broadcast network or by the team managing a news site using various resources. It may include additional material as sports coverage, weather forecasts, traffic reports, commentary and bullion market/ share market reports that the broadcaster feels is relevant to their target audience/ viewer.
Television news pertains to circulating current events via the medium of television. News bulletins or newscasts are the programs that last from few minutes to hours that provide updates on world, national, regional or local news events. Television news is essentially image-dominated, showing video for most of the events that are reported by the newscaster. Television channels mostly provide news bulletins as part of a regularly scheduled news program that may vary for different time slots by giving importance to different topics of interests. Rarely television shows may be interrupted or replaced by some important news flashes to provide news updates on current events of great importance or sudden development of events having great importance.
Radio news is the like the television news but it is transferred through the medium of the radio and available to the news enthusiasts in the audio format only. The visual aspect is absent from the radio news in totality. Narration of the events are captured and recorded through various reporters and played back through the radio. News updates are the regular feature on the radio as compared to the television; usually it takes place about once an hour. Traffic updates are also extremely popular through the radio, especially during rush hour when people get off to work. Radio news bulletins are also categorized during the scheduled time slot with special assignment to some topic of interest.
With the advent of internet websites dedicated to cater news and current events flourished rapidly. The news is available here in all the available formats like print, audio and video. As the Television and radio channels are dependent on their reporters the channels of the internet are supported by the hundreds of amateur enthusiasts who also cater important events instantly to the site besides having the services of the regular reporters like the TV and radio channels. Most of news reports presented on the Internet are updated 24 hours a day. Internet has become so popular that most of the leading news giants have established their own websites on the net and cater the news for 24 hours, this way they get the benefit of using the internet for their regular news updates also. It goes same for the press, television and radio.
Most of stories in the news come in the form of short packages, these are pre-recorded. News reporters gather and edit interview clips, pictures and their own pieces to camera to tell a story to their audience. Some stories are done as live. Here a reporter on the scene of a story either being interviewed by a studio presenter, a reporter interviewing one or more other people, or simply live pictures and sound of an event. The sound and pictures are sent back to the TV station via fixed cable links or bounced off a satellite through a satellite truck (OB Van), or sent through microwave radio transmissions from a vehicle carrying a microwave transmitter. With the growth of rolling news channels the use of live material has increased enormously and TV reporters are now often judged as much on their ability to perform live in front of a camera as on their package-making or writing skills.
News programs are put together by producers, who decide what goes in and what to be left out and how long and in what form each story is going to be presented. They put together running orders; a list of the stories in what they decide is the right order. A separate news editor or assignment editor is often responsible for coordinating the gathering of the news material. A director puts the show together, with help of the technical director, floor director and a crew of people running audio, graphics, teleprompter, and cameras. Most news shows are broadcast live.
In the earlier days supply of the news by the radio or television supposed to be the responsibility of the government agencies but after the advent of the commercial television and radio total scenario has changed world over now you can many commercial sites like CNN who cater the reliable news to the world. Many more channels are coming in regularly to cater the arena as a commercial venture.
The invention of telecommunications and broadcasting has resulted in the uncoupling of space and time. Spatial dissociation no longer required spatial distance. Information can be transmitted over long distances with hardly any delay. Broadcasting, especially news programs have changed the way we perceive many people, ideas, jobs, etc. At one time, the leadership and authority of politicians were in awe with everybody. Now that their speeches, actions and decisions are all recorded and broadcast on news programs, people have realized they make mistakes too, and are just like any other person. Not only does TV decrease our awe, it also increases the politician’s self-doubt and lowers self-esteem. When giving a speech, we can see the speech-givers nerves and anxiety up close. Most of the people think that public broadcasting has been more fair, more unbiased, more balanced than the private media like CBS, ABC, FOX etc. and is actually more trustworthy than most other institutions
